Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya emphasised the importance of women’s leadership in safeguarding the country’s future during the Mannar District Women’s Meeting yesterday (15).
She warned against rising racism and urged women to step forward to continue the nation’s progress.
In her speech, she highlighted the Government’s achievements in economic recovery, fighting corruption, and rebuilding institutions.
She stressed that despite progress, divisions based on race still threaten national unity.
The PM called for unity, especially among women, as they are among those most affected by racism and violence.
She also addressed ongoing issues such as drug abuse, violence against women and children, and the need for quality education.
Reaffirming her government’s commitment, she urged women to participate actively in the workforce and leadership roles to build a stronger, more equitable Sri Lanka.
The event was attended by MPs, local officials, and many women committed to the country’s future.
