The Department of Railways Sri Lanka has lodged a police complaint over the train derailment reported between Kelaniya and Wanawasala railway stations early yesterday (16).

Railway Superintendent of Train Operations Asanka Samarasinghe noted that preliminary investigations indicate the derailment may have been caused by the removal of metal plates from a railway switch point.

Sri Lanka Police stated that one suspect has been arrested by Peliyagoda Police in connection with the incident, while investigations are continuing to apprehend another suspect.

Twelve passengers sustained minor injuries in the derailment and were admitted to nearby hospitals.
