Sri Lanka’s official reserve assets declined marginally by 0.2% in January, according to data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Official reserves stood at $ 6,824 million at the end of January, compared with $ 6,838 million at the end of December 2025.
Foreign exchange reserves, which account for the largest share of total reserves, fell by 1% during the month, declining from $ 6,747 million to $ 6,680 million.
In contrast, the Central Bank’s gold holdings increased sharply in January, rising by 26.8% to $ 109 million from $ 86 million a month earlier.
The Central Bank noted that official reserve assets include foreign exchange swap proceeds of approximately $ 1.4 billion obtained from the People’s Bank of China, which are subject to specific conditions on usability.
