The Parliament informed the Election Commission (EC) of the vacancy created by the resignation of Thalatha Athukorala as a Member of Parliament (MP).

Thalatha Athukorala tendered her letter of resignation as an MP with effect from 21 August, creating a vacant seat at the Parliament

Accordingly, this has been informed in terms of the Section 64(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981, according to the Department of Parliamentary Communications.
