The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate a statement made by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa at an SLPP rally in Anuradhapura on 12 September.

The order follows a request by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to determine whether the statement amounted to contempt of court.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered the IGP to conduct the investigation and submit a report to the court.
