The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) stated that steps are being taken to prohibit the sale of unpackaged coconut oil in the local market.

CAA Acting Director General Samantha Karunasena stated that a Gazette notification has been drafted and is expected to be issued in the future.

Under the proposed requirements, packaged coconut oil must carry the product name, weight, expiry date, batch number and manufacturer’s details.

The CAA is also working with the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) to maintain required quality standards.
