25 Jun 2026

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has updated tourism earnings, following the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority’s (SLTDA) methodology revision. Earnings for May 2026 reached $ 155.7 million (m), bringing the cumulative total for January-May 2026 to $ 1,360 m.

The revision significantly adjusted the figures for the first four months of the year: January revised to $ 413.8 m from $ 378.3 m; February revised to $ 381.4 m from $ 352 m; March revised to $ 244.8 m from $ 223.7 m; and April revised to $ 164.3 m from $ 157.1 m.

This shift aims to enhance the accuracy and representativeness of such estimates incorporating country-specific data on tourist arrivals, average daily expenditure, and average duration of stay, providing a clearer view of the industry's economic impact.
