Google Maps has started updating real-time road information across 12,000 km of Sri Lanka’s main road network, Minister of Transport Bimal Ratnayake announced.
The new system features six types of alerts, including lane closures and construction updates, enabling motorists to plan routes more efficiently and avoid delays.
The Minister noted on X that the feature will help reduce congestion and improve travel planning. He urged the public to check Google Maps regularly for the latest updates.
The initiative is currently being implemented as a pilot project until 31 December.
