President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has identified three key areas to strengthen Sri Lanka’s health sector: bringing free healthcare closer to people, introducing advanced medical equipment and practices, and establishing a systematic management system.

The President made the remarks while joining the commencement of construction of a new Cardiac Care Complex at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital yesterday (16).

The eight-storey complex is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 3,545 million with JICA loan assistance and is expected to provide free cardiac and cardiothoracic surgical treatment.

The President also stated that development projects worth around Rs. 19 billion are planned for the Anuradhapura Hospital in 2027 and 2028, with the total investment in the hospital expected to reach nearly Rs. 34 billion, including ongoing projects.

He further highlighted the recruitment of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers to strengthen human resources in the health sector.
