Govt. introduces digital signatures to boost public service efficiency

16 Sep 2025 | BY Staff Writer

The government has launched a new digital signature system for public officials to improve the efficiency and speed of official duties.

The initiative, announced by Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Prof. Chandana Abeyratne, is part of a broader effort to digitize public services.

Speaking at a formal event yesterday(15), Minister Abeyratne stated that the goal is to create a more efficient public service that meets the public's expectations.

He also expressed a vision to extend this technology to Grama Niladhari officials.

The digitization process for officials in the Home Affairs Division, including those at District and Divisional Secretariats, has begun under the provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006.

LankaPay has been designated as the authorized entity to issue the digital signatures. This new system is expected to minimize delays in official correspondence and deliver faster, more effective services.
