Construction of commercial-scale battery energy storage systems at 16 power transmission substations across Sri Lanka is nearing completion, officials stated.

The systems will store excess solar power generated during the day and supply electricity to the national grid at night, depending on demand.

Each project will have a capacity of 10 megawatts. The Anuradhapura Substation project is around 85% complete, with stored electricity expected to enter the national grid as early as September.
