The Parliament has approved the motion to establish seven Sectoral Oversight Committees (SOCs) for the 10th Parliament.

As per the decision taken by the Committee of Selection, the motion in this regard was presented to the Parliament on Monday (17) by the Leader of the House Minister Bimal Rathnayake, upon which the approval of the House was granted. Furthermore, an agreement was reached regarding the distribution of the chairpersonships of these SOCs between the Government and the Opposition.

Accordingly, the chairpersonships of the SOC on Economic Development, and International Relations, the SOC on Health, Media, and Women's Empowerment, the SOC on Science, Technology, and Digital Transformation, and the SOC on Governance, Justice, and Civil Protection were agreed to be allocated to the Government while approval was granted to allocate the chairpersonships of the SOC on Infrastructure and Strategic Development, the SOC on Education, Manpower, and Human Capital, and the SOC on Environment, Agriculture, and Resource Sustainability to the Opposition.
