The Government has decided to grant a weekly holiday on Wednesdays for public sector employees starting today, in response to ongoing fuel supply challenges.
According to Prabath Chandrakeerthi, the holiday will also apply to schools, universities and the judicial sector, while state-approved schools and private tuition classes have been requested to suspend activities for the day.
However, essential services including healthcare, ports, water supply and electricity will continue to operate as usual.
The Department of Railways announced that trains will run on a Saturday schedule, with multiple services operating across main, upcountry, coastal and other lines.
The Sri Lanka Transport Board stated that bus services will continue islandwide, with adjustments made where necessary to meet passenger demand.
