The overall water capacity of Sri Lanka’s 74 major reservoirs remains at around 34%, according to the Irrigation Department.

Director of the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division Engineer L. S. Sooriyabandara stated that rainfall had been recorded in several districts and provinces over the past 24 to 48 hours.

However, he noted that the rainfall had not resulted in a significant increase in water levels in major reservoirs or rivers.

The highest rainfall recorded yesterday was around 40 mm in Badulla, while Maduru Oya and surrounding areas received around 100 mm in recent days.

Rainfall is expected in the Uva and Eastern provinces today, while higher rainfall is forecast for October and November ahead of the Maha cultivation season.
