Former Provincial Councillor Jayalath Bandara Dissanayake, the brother of former Minister S.B. Dissanayake, has been arrested in connection with an alleged financial fraud, police stated.

The arrest was made following a complaint received by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), alleging that the suspect had obtained Rs. 27.5 million from a resident of Weeraketiya after claiming that he could secure an excise licence.

The Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the CCIB launched an investigation into the complaint, which led to Dissanayake's arrest in Hanguranketha yesterday (14).

The 58-year-old suspect is due to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court today (15).

Further investigations are being conducted by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
