Heavy showers exceeding 100mm are likely in parts of southwestern Sri Lanka today (24), according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North Western provinces, and Galle and Matara districts.

Strong winds of around 40–50 kmph may occur in parts of the Central Hills, North Central and North Western provinces, and Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.

The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
