The Constitutional Council has approved Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya as Sri Lanka’s 37th Inspector General of Police, following a recommendation by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. 

Weerasooriya had been serving in the role in an acting capacity prior to the appointment.
