The low-pressure area near Sri Lanka is moving westward away from the island, but its effects may continue on 23 October, the Department of Meteorology has warned.
Rainfall exceeding 100 mm is possible in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and North-Western Provinces, as well as Anuradhapura and Galle districts.
Other areas may experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm after 1.00 p.m.
Another low-pressure area is expected to form over the south-eastern and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around 23 October and may intensify as it moves west-northwestwards.
Naval and fishing communities have been urged to monitor weather advisories, as sea conditions may become rough, with gusty winds reaching 60–70 kmph during thundershowers.
