The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for severe lightning in the Uva and Eastern provinces and Mullaittivu and Polonnaruwa districts.

The advisory, issued at 11 a.m. today (18), will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning and temporary strong winds are likely in several areas.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms.
