- CIABOC to also arrest Arjuna
The former Chairperson of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC/CEYPETCO), Dammika Ranatunga, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) earlier yesterday (15) has been granted bail. After considering the submissions made by officials of the CIABOC and the suspect’s lawyers, the Chief Magistrate of Colombo Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered Ranatunga to be released on bail.
The CIABOC informed the Court that it intends to arrest and present former Petroleum Minister Arjuna Ranatunga as a suspect in connection with this case.
Dhammika Ranatunga has been arrested on charges of causing a loss of nearly Rs. 800 million to the CPC by cancelling three long-term tenders that were scheduled for fuel purchases for the years 2017–2018, and instead proceeding with spot tenders at higher prices.
