Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court this afternoon (29) for the hearing of a case filed under the Public Property Act.

The case alleges that Wickremesinghe misused state funds in 2023 to travel to the United Kingdom to attend a ceremony honoring his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe, while serving as Head of State.

He was arrested on August 22, 2025, after giving a statement to the CID, and was later remanded until 26 August. 

Following the submission of medical reports, Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura granted him release on three surety bails of Rs. 5 million each, and the case was scheduled to be recalled today at 1:30 p.m.
