The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘Red Warning’ for strong winds and rough seas for multi-day boats operating in deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.

The low-pressure area intensified into a depression at 5.30 a.m. today (22) and is expected to become a deep depression within the next 12 hours.

Naval and fishing communities have been warned not to venture into sea areas between 5°N–22°N latitude and 85°E–100°E longitude until further notice.
