A new initiative to plant 16,000 saplings across Sri Lanka was launched yesterday (2) in celebration of National Independence Day. 

The programme, overseen by Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala, aims to promote environmental conservation nationwide. 

In the first phase, saplings were distributed to 126 police stations in the Western Province (WP), with plans for implementation across all police divisions islandwide by the Police.
