President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has affirmed that his government will not allow racist politics to resurface in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the launch of the national program “කප්තුරු සවිය,” the President stated that such politics are a tool used by politicians that have never benefited the public.

He noted that the country's 30-year war created divisions that were exploited by politicians in both the North and the South, but that the public rejected this approach in the last election. 

The President added that some political forces are still trying to create fear of a renewed conflict, but he stressed that the government is committed tpreventing any form of ethnic conflict and is prepared to take strong action to ensure lasting peace.
