A new Bill aimed at eradicating rabies, registering dogs and controlling the dog population in Sri Lanka was presented to Parliament today (24).

The Bill seeks to regulate dog vaccination and population control, introduce stricter rules on commercial dog breeding and establish a proper dog registration system.

It also proposes National and Regional Advisory Committees for rabies eradication.

The Bill repeals the Rabies Ordinance and Dogs Registration Ordinance. Its second reading is scheduled for tomorrow (25).
