The Colombo–Kandy main road has been temporarily closed at Kiribathgoda this afternoon after a fire broke out in two shops.

The blaze started in a textile shop and quickly spread to an adjacent building, causing heavy smoke and zero visibility. 

At least five firefighting trucks are currently on-site battling the flames.
