The National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) has noted a gradual decline in fish harvests in Sri Lanka’s territorial waters since 2014.

NARA Chairman Prof. Sanath Hettiarachchi stated that no single cause has been identified, while changes in the marine biological system are considered a major factor.

NARA has also initiated a programme to promote fish farming as a possible alternative for fishing communities.
