The Department of Meteorology reports that South-West monsoon conditions are gradually becoming established across the island, bringing widespread cloudy skies.
Frequent showers or thundershowers are forecast in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Northern, and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Northern provinces.
Other areas of the country may experience evening or nighttime showers or thundershowers.
Winds ranging from 30–40 km/h are also expected in the North-Western, North-Central, Northern, and Southern provinces and in the Trincomalee district.
The public is advised to take necessary safety measures to avoid hazards from strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
