Actor-turned-journalist Sudaththa Thilaksiri has sent legal notice to musician Iraj Weeraratne accusing him of defamation and has sought Rs. 50 million in damages for harm caused to his reputation.
The notice, issued through Attorney-at-Law Praveena Senadheera, has alleged that a live broadcast aired on the ‘Iraj Show’ YouTube channel on 23 February had included false and vulgar remarks about Thilaksiri, his spouse, and others in connection with a purported sex scandal.
The notice has claimed that the content was deliberately intended to humiliate him and has caused immense public backlash, severely damaging his personal and professional reputation.
The letter has further stated that the promotional trailer for the broadcast had allegedly mocked Thilaksiri using adult content themes and falsely portrayed him as a ‘laundry machine’ for the Government. It has been pointed out that his spouse was left mentally traumatised and requiring medical attention after the broadcast.
Thilaksiri has demanded that all related content be removed from social media platforms and that compensation be paid for the reputational damage caused, adding that legal action will be taken if the demands are not met.
