Here and Now delivered a measured performance to secure victory in one of Sri Lanka’s leading horse racing events, overcoming an early setback to finish strongly.
Slow off the gates by nearly 10 lengths, the horse settled during the middle stages before maintaining balance and control ahead of the final stretch. It then produced a late run to move past rivals and complete the race with a clear advantage.
The performance highlighted Here and Now’s stamina, race awareness and ability to respond under pressure, qualities required over extended race distances. The win also reinforced its standing among thoroughbreds competing in top-tier races in Sri Lanka.
At the Nuwara Eliya Racecourse, the Queen’s Cup continued to draw leading contenders in the local racing calendar. The race is regarded as one of the country’s established long-distance events.
Cosmic Feeling, trained by D. D. Mahesh, ridden by jockey K. Sanjeewa, secured victory in this year’s Queen’s Cup following a controlled ride.
Run over approximately 1800 metres, the race required sustained pace and positioning. Breaking well from the gates, the jockey settled the horse into a steady rhythm, conserving energy through the early and middle stages.
Approaching the final bend, Cosmic Feeling was positioned to challenge before accelerating in the home straight. The horse moved ahead of rival The Sovereign Orb to secure the win in a close finish.
The result reflected the horse’s ability to maintain control in a competitive field while delivering a consistent performance across the race. The victory also places Cosmic Feeling among the leading stayers in the local circuit.
