A sudden scheme to increase daily wages to Rs. 1,550 and provide Rs. 200 weekly incentives to plantation workers has been allocated Rs. 5 billion in the 2026 budget. 

The plan, effective from 1 January, 2026, for six months, will deposit the funds directly into workers' personal bank accounts. 

The Minister and Cabinet have approved this initiative.
