President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the National People’s Power (NPP) government is the only administration to have secured the full confidence of the people, addressing a May Day rally in Nuwara Eliya.

He said the current government has focused on decisions that benefit the public while reducing privileges enjoyed by those in power, in contrast to previous administrations.

The President noted that communities across the country, including those in the Hill Country, North, East, and South, have placed their trust in what he described as a people’s government representing the working class.

He added that the government aims to ensure stable incomes, quality education, housing, rule of law, and national unity.

Addressing corruption, President Dissanayake said a significant number of individuals accused of fraud would be imprisoned in 2026, with several cases already scheduled for hearing. He noted that institutions such as the Criminal Investigation Department and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption have been strengthened to support ongoing investigations.

He emphasized that the law will apply equally to all, regardless of status, adding that the government is committed to acting on the public mandate to bring offenders to justice.
