The Ministry of Health’s National Dengue Control Unit has revealed that 35,495 potential mosquito breeding sites were identified during the National Mosquito Control Week held last week.
According to Dr. Prasheela Samaraweera, 144,250 premises were inspected island-wide, with 4,275 locations found to contain active mosquito larvae.
As part of enforcement efforts, 3,812 red notices were issued and legal action initiated against 982 premises. High-risk areas included homes, schools, Government offices, factories, and religious institutions.
To date, 30,228 dengue cases and 16 related deaths have been reported this year, with the highest number of infections recorded in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Eastern provinces.
