The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) announced that air quality has worsened once again across several parts of Sri Lanka today (5).
The organization cited wind patterns and pollution originating from South Asian countries as key factors contributing to the current conditions.
This morning, Chilaw recorded the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) at 167, significantly above the safe threshold of below 50. Other areas experiencing elevated pollution levels include Battaramulla (AQI 160), Galle (AQI 154), Ratnapura (AQI 138), Ella (AQI 138), Akkaraipattu (AQI 131), Kegalle (AQI 116), and Jaffna (AQI 102).
The NBRO has issued a warning for sensitive individuals and those with pre-existing health conditions to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the adverse effects of poor air quality.
The organization continues to monitor the situation closely.
