The Cabinet has approved restarting the Kivul Oya Development Project to address water scarcity, low agricultural productivity, and poverty in Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts.

The project, previously suspended due to the 2022 economic downturn, will now be completed between 2026 and 2031 using local funds.

The revised total cost is estimated at Rs. 23,456 million, up from the original Rs. 4,170 million.
