Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has raised alarms over a surge in violent crimes, with eight murders reported between 18 and 21 February. 

He criticised President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for downplaying the issue and warned of a growing national security crisis due to escalating underworld gang violence. 

Premadasa demanded accountability, citing a recent courtroom murder and intelligence failures.
