Unit 3 of the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai, which underwent a 100-day scheduled maintenance shutdown, will recommence operations starting next week, a senior official from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) told The Sunday Morning.
Ministry of Energy Secretary Udayanga Hemapala also confirmed that all three units were now working smoothly.
“Maintenance happens regularly and there may be minor repairs, but all of them are functioning smoothly,” he said.
Meanwhile, a senior official who did not wish to be named, explained that regular maintenance of the power plants had been conducted as scheduled.
“In Unit 1, a 100-day inspection and maintenance is conducted every six years. In Unit 2, a 60-day maintenance is conducted every three years and in Unit 3, a 30-day maintenance is conducted when required, so we are now poised to be fully functional,” he said.
