The Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs, Muneer Mulaffer said that all preliminary work for the upcoming national programme, the ‘Sri Lankan Day’, has now commenced.
Speaking to The Daily Morning, he said that the necessary initial steps have already been taken, with responsibilities distributed among the relevant Ministries to ensure the programme's success. “The work to be carried out by each Ministry has been identified by now. The relevant parties will perform their role, and we are hopeful of a successful event."
The Cabinet of Ministers recently approved plans to hold the ‘Sri Lankan Day’ — a national event aimed at promoting unity and understanding among the country’s diverse communities.
The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs has been tasked with implementing the programme, which will be held from 12-14 December at the Colombo Municipal Council Grounds and the Vihara Maha Devi Park, including the surrounding areas. The three-day event will feature four zones, with participation from both public and private sector organisations. It will celebrate the nation’s cultural diversity, representing all ethnicities, religions, and traditions, and will include exhibitions showcasing local industries, regional food cultures, and opportunities for visitors to explore and purchase products.
