The Cabinet has approved amendments to the Relief (Aswasuma) Welfare Benefit Scheme, increasing monthly payments for poor and very poor communities. 

Starting from 1 July 2024, the new rates are:

LKR 8,500 to LKR 10,000

LKR 15,000 to LKR 17,500

The benefits for vulnerable families will be extended until 31 March 2025, and for at-risk communities until 31 December 2025.
