The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers across most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today (8).

Heavy rainfall of around 100mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts.

Showers may also occur in coastal areas of the Northern and Eastern provinces during the morning.

The public has been advised to take precautions against lightning and temporary strong winds during thundershowers. Misty conditions are also expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning.
