Midigama Chuti repatriated to CID

Member of an organised crime gang, Prabhath Madusanka, also known by the alias Midigama Chuti, who was taken into custody in Oman, has been brought back to the country yesterday (30). He was escorted from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake by a team of special Police officers.

Midigama Chuti, who is connected to multiple criminal activities, was taken into custody by the Omani security authorities last year (2025) while having a red warrant issued against him. Accordingly, three officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) departed for Oman to escort him back. He was brought to the BIA at 4.27 a.m. yesterday on SalamAir OV-437. Following the recording of his statements, steps have been taken to transfer him to the CID headquarters in Colombo.

Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police and attorney F.U. Wootler stated yesterday that the suspect is wanted in connection with numerous offences, including murder, aggravated robbery, the illegal possession of firearms, weapons trafficking, counterfeit currency racketeering, drug trafficking and other serious crimes. Addressing a press conference held yesterday in Colombo, Wootler stated the suspect will be produced before Court, following which a detention order will be sought to facilitate further interrogation by the CID.
