The Ceylon Electricity Board noted that its Special Investigations Unit recovered over Rs. 90 million in losses from illegal electricity connections in 2025.
The CEB stated that Rs. 90.24 million was recovered as compensation, with an additional Rs. 2.5 million collected as court fines.
Investigations identified 1,259 cases of meter tampering and 72 cases of unauthorised electricity tapping.
The CEB noted that suspects were arrested and legal action was initiated over fraudulent electricity use.
