Retired Brigadier H. M. Sarath Wijesena (63), who contested the 2024 General Election from the Ratnapura District under the National People’s Power (NPP) ticket, was killed in a road accident this morning (31).

The accident occurred at the Galkade junction in Welmilla on the Bandaragama-Kesbewa road while Wijesena and a retired colonel were traveling toward Galle on a motorcycle for a business meeting.

Police are conducting further investigations into the crash.
