Authorities have urged the public to use water and electricity sparingly as Sri Lanka continues to experience the effects of the El Niño climate phenomenon.

Meteorology Department Director General Ajith Wijemanna stated that El Niño could persist for another eight to 10 months, with higher temperatures and reduced rainfall expected in the coming months.

He advised people to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during peak heat hours and ensure adequate water intake, while officials are preparing water management measures amid concerns over declining reservoir levels.
