The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning of severe lightning across several provinces and districts in Sri Lanka today (27).  

The advisory, which is effective until 11.30 pm, indicates that thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at some locations after 2.00 pm. 

The affected areas include the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-central, North-western provinces, as well as the districts of Galle, Matara, Mannar, and Vavuniya.  

Red alerts have been issued to 16 districts, indicating very high risk, while amber alerts have been issued to 9 districts, signaling a significant threat.
