The Super League and the Champions League, two of the popular domestic football competitions are set to kick off in the first quarter of this year, following the completion of the Asian Cup Qualifiers in March, FFSL sources said.
The Super League is the country’s first-ever semi-professional league, which came into being in 2021, with 10 premier club vying for honours.
The tournament has had a difficult time due to the spread of COVID-19 and with financial constraints, many teams struggled to stay afloat at the initial stages.
However, the forthcoming season is set to provide exciting fare to spectators, with a new promotion and relegation system to add a new twist to the tournament, with the FFSL looking into the financial upliftment of the teams.
According to FFSL sources, the two lowest-ranked teams in the Super League, will be demoted, while the two top performing sides from the Champions League, are due to be promoted to the Super League.
The Champions League consisting of 14 clubs, will more or less be a feeder league to the Super League and it is scheduled to kick off next month, with teams competing for the chance to gain promotion to the top tier of local football.
