Wholesale prices of vegetables have significantly increased at the Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre, traders report.
One kilogramme of carrots is now selling for between Rs. 700 and Rs. 1,000. Beans and leeks are priced at Rs. 500 to Rs. 800 per kilogramme.
The price of pumpkin has seen a steep rise, jumping from around Rs. 30 to between Rs. 100 and Rs. 130 per kilogramme.
Traders stated the price surge is due to the large-scale destruction of vegetable plots caused by recent heavy rains and landslides.
