The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory warning of severe lightning across several provinces and districts in Sri Lanka. The alert is in effect today (11) until 11:30 p.m.
According to the advisory, thunder showers accompanied by severe lightning are expected to occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-Central, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Kurunegala, Mullaittivu, Mannar, and Vavuniya districts.
The thunderstorms are likely to develop after 1:00 p.m., with the possibility of temporary localized strong winds during these events.
The department has issued a red alert to 16 districts, indicating a high level of danger, and an amber alert to 9 districts, signaling a moderate risk.
Authorities and the public are urged to exercise caution and take adequate precautions to prevent damage and ensure safety during the thunderstorms.
