Candidates who wish to appear for the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L) Examination 2023 based on the results of last year’s (2022) GCE A/L Examination, which was held this year (2023), will have an opportunity to do so after the GCE A/L Examination 2022 (2023) results are released.
The results of the 2022 (2023) GCE A/L Examination were released online yesterday (4), the department announced. Accordingly, the results can be viewed on the following website: www.doenets.lk.
This was stated by the Department of Examinations in response to an allegation raised by certain parties accusing the department that students appearing for the GCE A/L Examination do not have a sufficient time frame to prepare for the next examination from the date that the results of the previous examination are released.
“It should be noted that the candidates who once appeared for the GCE A/L Examination with the expectation of university admission already have a personally estimated assessment of their results according to the way they provided answers in that examination and they can determine whether they should appear for the examination again or not. Hence, they were in a position to decide their next step immediately after appearing in the examination. Thus, the student can prepare for the forthcoming examination well in advance and does not need to wait for the results to be released. Accordingly, the process of calling applications for the GCE A/L Examination 2023, which has already been completed, cannot be cancelled as indicated by Ceylon Teachers’ Union General Secretary Joseph Stalin. The department already stated on 19 July 2023, that the applicants waiting for the results of the GCE A/L Examination 2022 held from 23 January 2023, to 17 February 2023, will be given an opportunity to apply for the second, third, or subsequent term after the releasing of the current examination results”.
In 2023, the Ddpartment conducted and finalised both the GCE Ordinary Level Examination and the GCE A/L Examination scheduled for the year 2022 and all necessary arrangements have been taken to conduct the Grade Five Scholarship Examination 2023 in October 2023 and the GCE A/L Examination 2023 during November–December 2023. Steps were taken by the department to release the results of the GCE A/L Examination 2022 conducted from 23 January 2023, to 17 February 2023. Although the results of the GCE A/L Examination 2022 (2023) could have been released within a period of four months from the date of the conclusion of the examination, the decision by university lecturers to withdraw from evaluation duties per trade union action and the decision of teachers to refrain from evaluation as marking examiners over their demand for an increase of the daily paid allowance, negatively impacted on the performance of the department.
