Consumers spending over Rs. 10,000 at co-operatives to get free life insurance

Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe stated that consumers spending over Rs. 10,000 per month at cooperative sales outlets will receive free life insurance.


The insurance cover will exceed Rs. 300,000, while all cooperative members will also be eligible for life insurance.


The Minister noted that cooperative employees will receive improved salaries and benefits, including life insurance.


He added that the cooperative sector will be developed through reforms, including Co-op City outlets in every region and low-interest loans for large urban outlets.
